The course did not finish up being sufficiently animating for his courageous cerebrum cells, so he chose to drop out after his first year of school. He had just mapped out his objectives and had the arrangement to accomplish them. Salim acquired $25,000 from his dad and set up his own dry-cleaning business in Port Coquitlam, BC. His dad was strong of this thought and OK with it being his first business adventure.

The next year, he sold the business for a $50,000 benefit. Meanwhile, he acquired San Francisco Rags in Maple Ridge, BC. Here, he took in the intricate details of the garments business.

His next endeavor was shopping centers, starting this new strategy in Medicine Hat, Alberta. With Chrysalis, a ladies' pants store.

Amid this time, Nickelodeon was leaving the business in Medicine Hat and Salim figured out how to get it. The business before long ventured into Calgary and by 1986, Salim opened 27 Nickelodeons in western Canada.

In 1983, Salim became the first Ismaili to Go Public in Canada.
